Emergency Lighting Systems
Emergency lighting is required to ensure safe evacuation and visibility in the event of a power failure, fire, or other emergency. In the UK, this is governed primarily by BS 5266 (Emergency Lighting Code of Practice) and supported by BS EN 1838, which set out requirements for design, installation, testing, and performance. These standards ensure that escape routes, open areas, and high-risk task zones remain adequately illuminated so occupants can exit safely and hazards are minimised.
We provide a full range of emergency lighting services to keep your system compliant and reliable:
-
Installation – Designing and installing systems in line with BS 5266 to suit your building layout and risk profile.
-
Maintenance & Testing – Routine inspections, monthly and annual testing, and certification to ensure continued compliance.
-
Remedial Works – Identifying faults or non-compliance issues and carrying out necessary repairs, upgrades, or replacements to bring systems up to standard.
-
This end-to-end approach helps ensure your premises remain safe, legally compliant, and fully prepared for emergencies.
Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)
Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) is carried out to ensure that electrical appliances are safe to use and do not present a risk of electric shock or fire. In the UK, PAT testing is guided by the IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment, alongside key legislation such as the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, which require that electrical equipment is maintained in a safe condition.
PAT testing involves a combination of visual inspections and electrical tests to identify damage, wear, or faults that could make equipment unsafe. This includes checking plugs, cables, and internal components, as well as verifying that protective measures like earthing are effective.
We carry out comprehensive PAT testing services to help businesses remain compliant and safe, including:
-
Inspection & Testing – Systematic checks of all portable electrical equipment in line with current guidance.
-
Labelling & Certification – Clear pass/fail labels and detailed records for compliance and audit purposes.
-
Remedial Works – Repairing or replacing faulty equipment and advising on best practice to reduce future risks.
Regular PAT testing not only supports legal compliance but also helps prevent accidents, protect staff, and maintain a safe working environment.
EICR Assessments
An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is carried out to assess the safety and condition of a building’s electrical installation, ensuring it remains safe for continued use.
It helps identify defects, deterioration, or non-compliance that could lead to electric shock or fire. In the UK, EICRs are guided by BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations) and supported by legislation such as the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and, where applicable, the Landlord and Tenant Act and Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020.
Regular EICRs demonstrate duty of care, support legal compliance, and help ensure the ongoing safety of occupants and property.
